What is Mica?
In Latin Mica is known as micare, which mean to shine or to glitter. Mica is a mineral name given to a group of minerals that are physically and chemically similar. Mica possesses some of the most outstanding combinations of chemical, physical, electrical, thermal and mechanical properties which are not found in any other product.
It is an important electrical insulating material with the added advantage of high resistance to high temperatures. Crystals of Mica are characterised by highly perfect basal cleavage in the direction of large surfaces permitting it to split or delaminate into extremely thin and flat films. There are 37 different mica minerals. The two varieties of mica that are commercially important are Muscovite Mica and Phlogopite Mica.
